Nike Court Case Study

For the pre-opening of Nike’s “House of Innovation” in Paris, we turned the city into a virtual playground and invited Parisians to access a preview of this new innovative retail experience through a web-based layer of augmented reality.
To that end, we placed different augmented reality experiences across the city, the centerpiece being a virtual extension of the infamous Pigalle Basketball court, where players could experience both the new design and set of rules in mobile AR.
Over a period of 6 weeks, young Nike members were given access to a multitude of exclusive drops, invitations, and experiences, by using their mobile phones to unlock QR codes across the city.

The treasure hunt

Around the neighbourhood of Nike's House of Innovation we gave young Parisians a taste of what this upcoming retail experience is all about, turning the area into a virtual playground.
We distributed over 200 locks, small AR portals studded with incentives, all around the city center of Paris. Participants could win invitations and experiences. At running tracks, the latest nike shoes where up for grabs. At the soccer field, fans hustled to win a signed Neymar Shirt.
Meanwhile, we utilised the covered windows of the soon to be opened House of Innovation by turning them into augmented reality portals, allowing users a peek behind the curtain of the upcoming store.
The visitors would see an abstract version of the interior filled to the brim with opportunities to win sneakers, invitations and experiences.

The iconic Pigalle basketball court

The centrepiece of the AR campaign was the freshly repainted Pigalle court. The iconic court always had its own set of rules, such as rebounding against the side walls. With the repainting a new set of rules was established and our augmented reality layer explained these in an immersive fashion. The layer extended the Pigalle court virtually and turned the court truly into an immersive playground.

Web AR

Harnessing the new power of the Web, Web AR, users could experience everything just by scanning the QR code on site. They would then be taken directly to the AR experience and thus avoiding the need to download the app.
